Cleaning
To wash, use warm water mixed with a gentle soap product such as baby shampoo or fabric softener.
Hand-wring the garment. Do not place in dryer. Lie flat on a towel or on a clothesline away from direct light.
Once the garment is dry this may take up to 48 hours - gently rub in leather conditioner.
Ensure metal fittings are dried immediately after wash to prevent rust. Rust can be removed by a chrome cleaner (from a car shop).
Leather can be ironed on the suede side on a low temperature without steam.
Scuffmarks or scratches can be concealed by shoe polish
Remove oily stains by rubbing in a diluted grease dissolver. Apply leather conditioner immediately after the stain is removed.
Kill germs and mould by soaking garment for 30 minutes in solution: one teaspoon of bleach to one bucket of water. Rinse and wash garment according to above instructions. Bleach only occasionally, as this may damage the garment.
Leather will stiffen if its:
Exposed to direct heat
Washed with strong detergents
Not properly rinsed
Permeated by sweat and other bodily fluids
